Kalamazoo Amateur Radio Club Minutes For September 2007


The August meeting was called order at 7:05PM by the President Charlie Chapman (KB8SFR) at the Red Cross Chapter House on Venture Dr on September 20th, 2007

Members introduced themselves as part of the opening.

The treasurers report was circulated and a motion to approve was made by Murray Cooper. The motion passed unanimously.

The secretary's minutes of the last meeting were also circulated. A motion was made by Jim Drenthe to approve the minutes. The motion was supported and passed unanimously.


Don Verhage was thanked for supply the food and coffee for the break.


Art Snapper as the county Emergency Coordinator, EC, reported on the upcoming SET exercise for the RACES program. He notes that it will again involve a scenario where local repeater use has failed and communication will have to be done via simplex radio simulating a winter ice storm. More will be available the Kalamazoohamradio yahoo group.

Ron Schubot noted that plans continue for the Dayton Hamfest but trip next may sponsored by the SMART Club. The club has a web site with more information at

JeRB, K8WPI, reported on the recent NOAA transmitter site committee meeting that he attended. He notes that plans are moving ahead and that there will some changes in the area covered by the transmitter which will cover Calhoun county and much of Berrien County as well. JeRB also notes that with the new site up and running we as a club may have to bear the cost of cleaning up the current site.


JeRB also did a presentation on Ham Radio as a community. JeRB related his experiences over the years with the emphasis on the development of long term relationships that have arisen from long distance radio contacts. He notes that he has maintained these relationships over many years that grew from casual contacts via radio to close friendships.


Don Verhage moved that the meeting be adjourned. The motion was supported and passed. The meeting closed at 8:13 PM
