KALAMAZOO AMATEUR RADIO CLUB ANNUAL MEETING

JANUARY 19, 2006 MINUTES

The annual meeting of the KARC was held at the Kalamazoo Red Cross 19 January 2006 and called to order by vice President Dave Schneider AB8DS at 7:00 PM.

INTRODUCTIONS:  The meeting commenced with introductions with 25 members and two guests in attendance.

MINUTES: The minutes from the December meeting were approved (Don Verhage KC8OQM moved, Piran Mohazzabi AB8HU seconded).

TREASURY:  The treasurer’s report showed a balance of $2,529.67 in the general fund which included revenue from the Ham Fest and a maintenance fund balance of $559.10.  The report was approved (Mel Jaquays N8MJ moved, Don Verhage KC8OQM seconded).

ELECTIONS:  Elections to fill the three open KARC Board positions were held.  Ron Schubot N8CML and Dave Nawatny KC8WLD were elected to the open three year positions. Dave Clark W8OO was elected to the one year remaining on Jim Gorka’s term.

RACES: CPR/AED training was held.  The 2 M antennas were installed on the Red Cross tower.  The HF antenna at the EOC is fixed.

SKYWARN:  Training will be held on March 20 at 7pm at the Portage Fire Department on Shaver Rd.

CLASSES:  A general class starts on Monday Jan. 23 and technician class starts on Tuesday Jan. 24 at the Red Cross.  The classes start at 7pm.  They should run about 10 weeks.  Costs will be around $15 for the books and $15 for the license test at the end.

CLUB STATION: The club will be open for members to use on Wednesday Jan. 25th at 7 pm.

6M REPEATER: The SMART club’s 6M repeater is being fixed.

VE TESTING:  VE testing will be held Jan 28 at the Sheriff’s department.

FIELD DAY:  The county Parks and Recreation my charge the club to use Prairie View Park for Field Day.  Other possible sites would be the Red Cross, a Portage City park or Fort Custer.

BIG PROJECT:  Dave Clark was able to get the parts he asked for.  He thanked volunteers John Tucker, Romeo Phillips, and Jim Keesler, but there is still plenty of opportunity for more volunteers.  He is also looking for an outside 2M antenna to listen for SuitSat, a ham radio in a space suit that will be released from the International Space Station.

PROGRAM:  A silent auction was held.
