KALAMAZOO AMATEUR RADIO CLUB BOARD MEETING

February 7, 2006 MINUTES

 

The monthly meeting of the KARC Board was held at the Kalamazoo Red Cross 7 February 2006 and called to order by Vice President, Dave Schneider AB8DS

New Board Members, Dave Clark W8OO, Dave Nawatny KC8WLD

Technical Committee Chair, Art Snapper NK8X

Others: Jim Keesler K8EXF, and outgoing treasurer John Chapman KB8UWA

 

MINUTES: The minutes of the previous meeting were approved. (Jim Gardner KI8HF moved, and Dave Clark W8OO seconded).

 

TREASURY:  The treasurer’s report was approved.  (Dave Clark W8DO moved, and Dave Nawatny KC8WLD seconded) The general fund balance was $2501.43 and the maintenance fund balance was $559.10.

 

PUBLIC SERVICE:  Walk America and the Juvenile Diabetes Walk are both scheduled for May 6 and the MS Walk and the Kal-Haven Trial Blazer are both scheduled for May 13.

 

RACES:  RACES was activated for the Superbowl.  A show and tell of portable equipment is planned for the February meeting.  March 20 will be Skywarn training.

 

BOARD POSITIONS:  After the election of new board members the new KARC board is:

President:               Dave Schneider AB8DS

Vice President:        Dave Nawatny KC8WLD

Secretary:               Ron Schubot N8CML

Treasurer:                Jim Gardner KI8HF

Members at Large:   Dave Clark W8OO

MEMBERSHIP:  A mass mailing to local hams was discussed to increase the participation of local hams in the KARC.

 

CLUB LICENSE:  When the club license expires, Al Lewis would like to be removed as trustee.

 

SILENT KEY PLAQUE:  A while ago the club ordered a plaque to honor silent key members.  It has not been updated to include deceased members.  Jack Price may be able to provide names.

 

CLUB STATION/HAM FEST: The club station will be open and there will be a ham fest committee meeting on Feb. 22 at 7 pm.

 

CLASSES:  There are 10 in the general class and 9 in the tech class.  Dave Clark encouraged the club to mentor the graduates of the classes.

 

RADIO CAMP:  Radio camp is tentatively scheduled for June 19-23 in the evenings from 4-7 or 5‑8.  Dave Clark said he would look into using Winchell school to hold the camp.

 

ACTIVITIES:  The club would like there to be more activities such as fox hunting.  The club could possible coordinate this with LOSTeam outings.
 

MERGING CLUBS:  A request was made to research what is involved in merging the two clubs.  When the new SMART board is elected, the two boards will get together to discuss a merger.

 

BIG PROJECT:  Dave Clark is concerned what will happen with the Big Project when he is not in town.
